Obstructive lung diseases are a group of diseases where the smooth vessels of the minor airways go into spasm in response to a variety or internal or external allergens or reactants.

In response to this spasm, air find it difficult to move in, or sometimes get trapped in alveoli resulting in emphysema.

What’s the Difference between Obstructive and Restrictive Lung Disease?

In interstitial lung diseases, the interstitium of lung get thickened from fibrosis, pneumoconiosis,etc dis-allowing to expand and hence called interstitial lung diseases.

In contrast in obstructive lung diseases, there is spasm of smooth musles of airway tubules resulting in obstruction to to and fro movements of air.

What Causes Obstructive Lung Disease?

smoking, pollutants, pollens,dust and other allergens are the common reason for obstructive lung diseases.
